A Nigerian lady, Mary Otunba, has soared above all the challenges she faced to accomplish prominence in the academic world.
In a LinkedIn post, Mary, who graduated with a 5.0 CGPA from Caleb University, said she initially attended a polytechnic, all thanks to words of encouragement from her father.
After finishing from the polytechnic, Mary was confused on what next to do with her life, however, luck later smiled on her as she got an internship with a big company.
Around this period Mary lost her dad and at the same time preparing for her ICAN examinations with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria while she got to know about the distance learning program at Caleb University.
Mary lacked a sponsor after the sudden death of her late father and decided to finance herself. She narrated that she had to use the torchlight on her phone for two years to enable her save money to pay her bills. She deprived herself of living a luxurious life by sleeping in an uncompleted building for months so that she would not be far from her workplace.
In a LinkedIn post, Mary appreciated friends who provided her with food and clothes during that trying time. In 2019, she became a chartered accountant.
In 2020, Mary became the best graduating student in her department with an incredible 5.0 CGPA.
In the last part of her story, she said: “My experience over the years had thought me that life is in phases. All I need is to enjoy every bit of it cos they are not meant to last forever.”
