The First Diamond Engagement Ring

The first diamond engagement ring was presented in 1477 by Archduke Maximilian of Austria to Mary of Burgundy. An engagement ring signifies that someone is engaged and about to get married.

In Western tradition, an engagement ring is presented to a prospective spouse. It usually serves as an agreement between two lovers who are ready to live as husband and wife.
