Meet Folake Owodunni the Co-founder & CEO of Emergency Response Africa. She is one of the women in the Health sector bringing the innovation of ideas through technology into the Emergency Response space.

Folake can be identified as a passionate African that wants a rapid solution to the emergency system problems in Africa.

Here below is her experience in the Health Sector.

I was born and raised in West Africa, Nigeria. I witnessed the impact of lack of access to quality medical care, especially in emergency situations. Fortunately, the day my child experienced a medical emergency, we were living in Canada. I called 911 and was grateful to experience the fast, life-saving response that most Nigerians only see in movies.

This inspired me and brought the idea of Emergency Response Africa, which was Co-founded with Maame Poku. The idea is to provide an innovative solution to the lack of access to emergency medical care in Africa. I hold a degree in BSc Biology from the University of Oregon and Masters in Global Health & Development from University College London. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s in Business Entrepreneurship & Technology (MBET) at the University of Waterloo.

I have experience in working in healthcare, non-profit, and management consulting in Nigeria, the United States, and Canada, and trained as a certified First Responder with the Canadian Red Cross. Together with Maame Poku, a Ghanaian Software Developer and ERA’s Chief Technology Officer, we are building ERA into a technology-driven emergency medical service with reach across Africa.
